Party Like a Russian
Without wishing to sound pretentious I met Robbie Williams many years ago when he was in Take That the first time around. I was staying in the same hotel as the band through some happy coincidence with some friends. Anyway, they were playing at a venue nearby and one of the barmen mentioned they'd made a request for part of the bar to be cleared for when they returned, so being a little starstruck we decided to hang around the bar like some teenage groupies...... no wait..... we were some teenage groupies!! Anyway at around 11:30pm in they came along with their entourage and made for the part of the bar we were lurking in. I learned a very important lesson that night, don't believe the hype! I should mention at this point two of my friends were/are totally gorgeous and totally not into Take That. Gary Barlow eventually sidled over to where were sitting and started chatting up one of my friends. I'm not going to go into it but to say he was rude and pretty obnoxious was an under statement! some time after Robbie came over and tongue in cheek asked us if his friend was bothering us, to which we dutifully giggled like schoolgirls. He asked us what we were all drinking and went back to the bar and came back with our order, as he arrived, Gary got up and walked off without a word, the friend he was chatting up just grinned and suggested he probably wouldn't be coming back - enough was said. Robbie stayed with us for a good hour, bought us more drinks, was erudite, funny, sensitive, interested in us, engaging and actually much more good looking than I'd noticed on the videos. At one point I said to him..... "I thought you were supposed to be the rebel of the bunch and Gary was supposed to be the angel", he smiled and told me it was all part of the marketing machine and in reality it wasn't like him at all, this was met with a resounding "yeah right!!" but as the time moved on he clearly was genuinely a really nice guy. Subsequently I've loved Robbie ever since, bought his records and been to several concerts including the Take That reunion tour, and I've never been disappointed. I always look forward to his new singles with anticipation and as his new record has been a long time coming more anticipation than usual - needless to say I love it, kind of old Robbie with some Prokofiev thrown in to pique my interest and give me shivers, (Romeo and Juliet, the dance of the Knights), so I wanted to share it with you - enjoy!
Anyway - I promised I'd share some of my other purchases from C88 if I got chance so here you go;
I've always loves Zaara, beautiful colours, beautiful textures and something away from the SL norm of short skirts and tight dresses. As soon as I tried this demo on I bought it, it just woke the frustrated, inner hippie in me, I close my eyes and I'm transported to Woodstock, it's 1969, I have flowers in my hair and I'm dancing to Janis Joplin with the Kozmic blues band performing Work me Lord....... one of the things I love about SL is that it has the ability to do that...... to transport you to whatever fantasy or dream you wish to be a part of, what else in life allows you to do that??
