Something that has become a tradition in our household is the mandatory watching of certain Christmas movies so, today I’m going to give you a list of some of my favourite Christmas movies of all time!

Love Actually (2003)

Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects all individuals, Love! Among the characters explored are David, Hugh Grant, the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer, Martine McCutcheon, Sarah, Laura Linney, a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry, Alan Rickman, a married man seduced by his attractive new secretary!

Bridget Jones Diary (2001)

At the start of the New Year, 32-year-old Bridget (Renée Zellweger) decides it's time to take control of her life and start keeping a diary. With a taste for adventure, and an opinion on every subject - from exercise to men to food to sex and everything in between - she's turning the page on a whole new life!

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Six-year-old Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) is sceptical of the Christmas myth surrounding Santa Claus, a trait she perhaps learned from her mother, Dorey (Elizabeth Perkins). When tasked with hiring the Santa who will pose with kids at Macy's, Dorey enlists a man with the curious name of Kris Kringle (Richard Attenborough) who claims to be Santa himself. His assertions are met with scoffs and threats of institutionalization, but a young lawyer, along with Susan and Dorey, comes to his defence.

Favourite Fact About the Movie

The director of photography decided to put a light above each of the actor's and actress's heads during all of the shots to give a distinct glow behind them. As this was popular in the 1990s, it helped give a warm feel to the remake of a classic movie.

The Holiday 2006

Dumped and depressed, English rose Iris, (Kate Winslet) agrees to swap homes with similarly unlucky in love Californian Amanda, (Cameron Diaz) for a much-needed break. Iris finds herself in a palatial Hollywood mansion while Amanda navigates the lanes of a picture-perfect English village. Soon enough, both lovelorn ladies bump into local lads perfect for a romantic pick-me-up!

Graham, (Jude Law): I'm a full-time dad. I'm a working parent. I'm a mother and a father. I'm a guy who reads parenting books and cookbooks before I go to sleep. I spend my weekends buying tutus. I'm learning to sew. I'm Mr. Napkin Head!

Favourite Fact About the Movie

Miles's (Jack Black) studio setup, seen in the opening scene, with keyboard, monitors, sound modules, etc., was copied directly from the studio of Hans Zimmer, who composed the score for the film.

Elf 2003

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.

“SANTA! Oh my God! Santa, here?! I know him! I know him!” Buddy, (Will Ferrell), on hearing that Santa is in the store grotto!

Favourite Fact About the Movie

Wanda Sykes was originally slated to play the Gimbel's Manager but backed out at the last minute. She was replaced by Faizon Love, who insisted on still wearing the nametag made for Sykes, which is why his tag inexplicably says "Wanda."

There’s always room for more right? Well, I have a contender, the other evening we sat down and watched the fabulous new movie from Richard Curtis – I LOVED it!

That Christmas 2024

It's an unforgettable Christmas for the townsfolk of Wellington-on-Sea when the worst snowstorm in history alters everyone's plans, including Santa's – I’m not saying anymore, it would be a spoiler!

Favourite Fact About the Movie

The movie is based on Richard Curtis’s books, when his son read them he said… “Dad, you really don’t have any imagination.” His son recognised every character in the books as members of his immediate family!
