Brunch is Best!

It’s a Beautiful day here in London, big skies and wonderful sunshine – a glorious winters day!

There’s nothing finer on a day like today than to get wrapped up, head to one of the parks and just stroll around watching life happening around you, on a day like to day it’s smiles and rosy cheeks all the way.

On Sundays in particular the other thing I like to combine is a brisk walk with brunch so with that in mind let me introduce you to one of London’s hidden gems!

Once upon a time this culinary jewel was only open until 11:30, now however it’s open until 3:30pm and I rejoice in the fact!

Next Sunday or at least at some point over the next few weeks, if you’re around London, take yourself, and at this point can I recommend you take some friends – I’ll explain later, to Brockwell Park. It’s in saaaaf London not far from Brixton, some of you might know it because of the famous Lido but don’t worry, we’re not going swimming!

It’s not a huge park and certainly not one of London’s great parks, it will take you around forty-five minutes to walk around the perimeter, even if you take in the little community greenhouses – which in fairness are worth a peep, you’ll be walking for less than an hour. To be honest, the walk is simply a justification to pull up a chair at the Lido Café which is at the entrance just off the Dulwich road.

Park your bum and ask for a pot of English Breakfast whilst you peruse the menu. Now, this is why it’s important to bring friends! Everything on the menu is scrummy and you will be totally spoiled for choice, believe me, it’s not my only visit!

Last time I was there I had three chums with me – especially chosen for their lack of fussiness with food, their willingness to share and their hearty appetites. After drilling down through the menu, we settled on;

A Full English – that was a given

Huevos Rancheros with Chorizo – Heavy on the Chili, I think someone had a bit of a hangover!

Eggs Benny – it comes with the most beautifully beetroot cured salmon

Banana Bread French Toast with Almond Butter, Cinnamon, fruit and maple syrup

And for good measure we threw in a Kale, Roast Pumpkin, Quinoa and Cranberry with Toasted almonds and Maple Dressing.

We missed out on the Smashed Avo and Seeds but there’s always next week!

Now I know some of you will be thinking – surely, you’d want your breaky first and then walk it off around the park afterwards – well, if that’s your bag that’s fine however, jumping into my lovely warm car, driving home and having a girl’s afternoon in front of Netflix is more my kind of thing! Actually, whilst we’re on the subject of Netflix and food, have you seen Ugly Delicious? The listing says; “All the flavour. None of the BS. Star chef David Chang leads friends on a mouth-watering, cross-cultural hunt for the world's most satisfying grub.” Watched the first one yesterday, it’s really, really good!

Back at the Lido Cafe – Give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
